Financial Accounting & ACCA Training

Training to get a professional certification can be time well spent! Wouldn't it be good to wake up every morning and look forward to going to work? Instead of feeling frustrated in our job, we could be recognised for making an interesting and valuable contribution.

How Do I Know Which Career To Choose?

Having said that, it can be a problem knowing which direction to take! Yes we need to do something, but how can we be sure that a move would bring the results we're looking for? Training in finance or accounting will equip you with the skills to build a solid and rewarding career or business. You'd certainly be able to achieve recognition for your efforts, and get paid well into the bargain!

Naturally there isn't just one course or training programme for everybody - what you'll have to do is identify the profession you're going for first, and then find suitable training to qualify you for it. You could begin your career as a Book-Keeper or an Accounts Clerk for example. As you progress, you'll find opportunities to head up departmental teams, or become a manager in the finance department. By bookmarking this page (Ctrl D) and regularly re-visiting it, you'll see a wide variety of training companies promoting their websites. Evaluate the different programmes they have on offer, and the different teaching methods they use. Check that any training you short-list will prepare you for well-acknowledged exams. You must be able to provide future employers with established certifications.

What Subjects Will Be Covered?

If you're looking to enter the Finance and Accounting industry for the first time, you'll need to learn a variety of practical skills to be considered employable. For example you'll need knowledge of how to operate computerised book-keeping records, the double-entry system, vat, payroll, reconciliations to name but a few. For those wishing to move on in the industry, training also covers subjects at a higher level.

Here such things as certain accountancy packages and their operation, final accounts, capital expenditure and Ltd companies could be covered, although many advanced courses specialise.

What's The Work Like?

Anyone with credible qualifications in accounts/book-keeping can offer themselves to all sorts of commercial and public sector organisations. As every single business in the country has to keep financial records by law, you have a wide choice! You could enjoy the cut and thrust of a big conglomerate, or prefer to be in a small team working locally. Many company directors once had jobs in accountancy or finance, and progressed to the top through diligence and hard work. Finally you could work for yourself, looking after the books for a number of one man or woman businesses in your locality.

How Do I Know I Can Do This Work?

Naturally you must have competent maths skills to do this sort of work. And if you enjoy paying a lot of attention to detail and are able to work in a painstaking and methodical manner then it's likely you're right for the job. Working in accounts requires good logic and a diligent attitude.

Finally, the work is often of a confidential nature, and so you must be very honest and ethical.

"Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together." - Vincent Van Gogh.

Examine The Market

Various accounting and financial courses abound on the internet and throughout the country. Finding the best one to suit your needs takes comprehensive searching. As we've already discussed, don't just opt for the first one you come across - it takes time to compare what you'll get, and discover which ones will come the closest to what you're really looking for. Some will be entirely college-based, some will be entirely distance learning and others will have a combination of both. Your preference will depend on how you're going to fit studying into your existing lifestyle, and how you feel about learning alongside other people.

Request a sample of the training materials from the colleges you like the look of. That will give you an idea of the quality. Then chose your training and get going. You'll wonder why you didn't change sooner when you're happily certified and enjoying work to the full. You know you're worth it!
